Belaynesh Oljira made her marathon debut last year in Dubai running a solid 2:25:01. She hopes to improve that time in her Boston Marathon debut. “Boston is the biggest race in the world, and I want to be a Boston Marathon champion,” says Oljira. In the half marathon distance, Oljira won the 2013 Berkane Half Marathon and the 2012 Houston Half Marathon. Her personal best half marathon time is 1:07:27, earned in New Delhi in 2011.
Excelling in the 10,000m, Oljira won the bronze medal at the 2013 Moscow IAAF World Championships, placed fifth at the 2012 London Olympic Games, and won the 2011 Ethiopian National Championships. In World Cross Country Championship competitions, she won the bronze medal in 2013 and finished 10th in 2011.
Oljira trains in Adis Ababa with her coach Haji Adillo. She recently got married and her husband is an expert in judo.
