Career Notes:

Jemima Jelagat Sumgong’s hard work paid off in 2013 with a win in Rotterdam and a sub-2:21 runner-up finish in Chicago. Both races steadily improved her personal best time. Sumgong returns to Boston to redeem herself after missing the 2012 title to countrywoman Sharon Cherop by two seconds. Sumgong has never finished out of the top five in her marathon performances and has been competing on the roads internationally since 2004.

Personal Notes:

Sumgong is married to Noah Talam, an elite marathoner with a 2:12 best. The couple has a daughter. Sumgong trains in Kapsabet in the Nandi Hills with Rita Jeptoo under the direction of her coach Claudio Beradelli.
