Mare Dibaba secured her first career win at this year’s Xiamen Marathon as she cruised to a 2:21:36 course record. Named to the Ethiopian Olympic marathon squad after running 2:19:52 in Dubai, Dibaba finished a disappointing 23rd. In 2011 she was runner up at the Toronto Marathon and finished third at the Los Angeles Marathon behind the winner Buzunesh Deba and runner up Amy Hastings. In 2011, Dibaba won the gold medal at the All-Africa Games Half Marathon in Maputo in 1:10:47 and won the Yangzhou Half Marathon in 1:09:41. Her best half marathon time is 1:07:13, earned with a second place finish at the 2010 Ras Al Khaimah International Half Marathon. Dibaba was also runner up at the Philadelphia Half Marathon in 1:07:44.
Dibaba trains in Addis Ababa and her coach is Haji Adillo. She is affiliated with Elite Sports Management International. She says she likes to drink Ethiopian coffee and tea with her family, visit with friends and go to the cinema.
