Career Notes:

Robin ‘Rob’ Watson ran the second fastest marathon by a Canadian in 2012 at the Rotterdam Marathon where he recorded a 2:13:37. New to the marathon distance, Rob is transitioning from the steeplechase, where he was a two-time Canadian National Champion and a member of the 2009 Canadian World Track and Field Championships team.

Watson, who ran his first 10K road race at the age of six, said he became a runner because of family influences. “Running is an activity in which my family has always participated. My five brothers all ran, my parents have both run marathons, and I even had an aunt (Jill Ross Giffen) participate in the 1984 Olympic heptathlon.”

Personal Notes:

Watson knows running the Boston Marathon is a career maker. “Boston is the race that all of us marathoners have to do at some point in our careers,” says Watson. “Boston is literally the most iconic and famous marathon in the world. There is so much history and so many amazing stories associated with this event. Every marathoner has to do this race eventually! I am excited to be doing so at my peak, and I would love to go after the Canadian record in the process.”

Watson grew up in London, Ontario, and now trains and resides in Vancouver, British Columbia. He currently works at a Vancouver running store with 1986 Boston Marathon runner-up Art Boileau. Watson graduated from Colorado State University in 2007 and is coached by his brother Pete Watson, who is head cross-country and assistant track coach at the University of Virginia.
