Career Notes:

Historically a consistent marathon runner, Yeshi Esayias has won eight career marathons. In 2013, she had a break-through year as she finished runner-up at the Tokyo Marathon, won the Ottawa Marathon in course record time and earned a new personal best at the Frankfurt Marathon with a 2:24:06 finish. She said her first marathon victory in Marrakech was a pivotal moment for her and gave her confidence to enter larger races with more elite competition.

Personal Notes:

Esayias is excited for her Boston debut. “I have a lot of experience running strategic races and running on hilly courses,” says Esayias. “I have experience running from the front and catching other runners when the pace is fast. I am confident and ready for anything.” She trains with a large group in Ethiopia and with her husband Debele Teklemehdin. Esayias was inspired to become a runner by Haile Gebrselassie and three-time Boston Marathon champion Fatuma Roba. Esayias is raising two orphan children in her house. She likes to read books and watch movies.

“When we, the people of the world, work together and dream together we can achieve anything.”
