B.A.A. 5K
An estimated 10,000 participants take part in the eighth annual B.A.A. 5K from Boston Common. The race course passes over the Boston Marathon finish line. Race registration opened to the general public in January.
John Hancock Elite Athlete Team Media Conference
Principal sponsor John Hancock presents the top competitors running the 121st Boston Marathon, including past champions, Olympians, Abbott World Marathon Majors event champions, and top Americans. Media are provided individual interview opportunities.
Scholars & Stars // Boston
John Hancock, in partnership with the United States Fund for UNICEF, brings Boston 3rd, 4th and 5th graders together to meet and train with world-class marathoners, including past champions at the Reggie Lewis Track Center. 2015 Boston Marathon champion Caroline Rotich and 2012 Boston Marathon champion Wesley Korir will join students this year.
B.A.A. Relay Challenge
Middle schools from around Greater Boston will convene for the annual B.A.A. Relay Challenge. In the culmination of a month-long program taught by volunteer coaches, the adidas sponsored relay challenge has students racing near the Boston Marathon finish line.
B.A.A. Invitational Mile
The Invitational Mile features some of the top professional and scholastic milers. The high school athletes represent the eight host cities and towns of the Boston Marathon. Event also features middle school athletes representing the eight host cities and towns in a 1,000 meter race.
Scholars & Stars // Hopkinton
John Hancock brings the elite Kenyan runners together with Hopkinton elementary students for a pre-race pep rally in the historic town where the Marathon begins. Students study the culture of their running friends throughout the year.
