Mare Dibaba has consistently raced to top performances over the marathon distance. Most recently she set a course record in Xiamen to defend her title there, and says her sub-2:20 marathon performances are her proudest accomplishments. At Boston last year, she finished third in 2:20:35. Returning to America for the Chicago Marathon this past October, she finished second. Named to the 2012 Ethiopian Olympic squad in the marathon, Dibaba finished a disappointing 23rd. Additional podium berths include placing second in Toronto, and third in Dubai, Rome, and Los Angeles. In 2011,
Dibaba won the gold medal at the All-Africa Games Half Marathon in Maputo in 1:10:47 and won the Yangzhou Half Marathon in 1:09:41. Her best half marathon time is 1:07:13, earned with a second-place finish at the 2010 Ras Al Khaimah International Half Marathon.

Dibaba trains in Addis Ababa and her coach is Haji Adilo. She is affiliated with Elite Sports Management
International. She says she likes to drink Ethiopian coffee and tea with her family, visit with friends, and
go to the cinema.

“It is the dream of any marathon runner to win the Boston Marathon, so for me there is only
one Boston to help my dream come true.”
