John Hancock, in partnership with the Boston Scholar Athlete Program, brings members of Boston high school track teams together to meet and train with world-class marathoners, including past champions, Olympians, and top Americans.

John Hancock brings the elite Kenyan runners together with Hopkinton elementary students for a pre-race pep rally in the historic town where the Marathon begins. Students study the culture of their running friends throughout the year.

An estimated 10,000 participants will take part in the seventh annual B.A.A. 5K from Boston Common. The race course will pass over the Boston Marathon finish line. Race registration opened to the general public in February.

The Invitational Mile features some of the top professional and scholastic milers. The high school athletes represent the eight host cities and towns of the Boston Marathon.

More than 20 middle schools from around Greater Boston will convene for the 19th consecutive year for the B.A.A. Relay Challenge. In the culmination of a month-long program taught by volunteer coaches, the relay challenge will feature students from all of the schools competing near the Boston Marathon finish line.

Post-race interviews with winners and contenders in all divisions begin at approximately 11:00 a.m., at the conclusion of the push rim wheelchair division race, and last until approximately 2:00 p.m.
