Deribe Robi says, “I waited for the opportunity to compete in an Abbott World Marathon Majors event, and debuting in Boston couldn’t be better. It is very big event; full of tradition and it is not paced, so it is about racing from the start.” Robi has finished on the podium eight times and says 2015 was a pivotal year for him, as both his Eindhoven and Dubai races were competitive and he felt strong.
Robi trains in Addis Ababa with a small training group because he like precise training and pacing. He is married to Kidist Teklu, and the couple has a son, Rebirra, a name that means “from God.” “I often imagine winning the Boston Marathon and that picture is alive in my mind — my family smiling, me raising hands in celebration and feeling the tape as I cross the line.”
“Running bold is about being who you are when it gets tough, and as the Boston Marathon is about running fast for everyone, there is no other way than to Run Bold.”
