Dino Sefir won the bronze medal at the 2007 African Junior Championships in the 5,000m. In 2009 and 2011 he was a member of the Ethiopian World Cross Country team, finishing 15th and 12th respectively. At the 2011 Maputo All-Africa Games he placed fourth in the 10,00m. In 2012, Sefir ran the London Olympics Game Marathon, but did not finish. He says his Boston expectation is “is to be a good competitor and of course to win.” His proudest running accomplishment was running 2:04:50 in Dubai in 2012 and overcoming injury to win Ottawa and Barcelona in 2016.

Sefir grew up in the Gurage Zone in the southern section of Ethiopia and says that when he became a runner, there was no one else from his village that ran professionally. He says many of the youth from Gurage are now motivated to train hard to become elite runners. His hobbies include watching soccer and learning new skills. Sefir trains with a group from Demadonna athletics in the Addis Ababa area.
