The champion of five marathons and the runner up at two, Flomena Cheyech Daniel will make her second World Marathon Majors appearance at the Boston Marathon this year. She was champion of the Glasgow Commonwealth Games Marathon in 2014 and earned her personal best during a formidable win at the 2014 Paris Marathon. Daniel has run eight half marathons under 1:09:45, with a personal best 1:07:39 from her 2013 Rome-Ostia Half Marathon win. She ran for her country at the 2009 Birmingham IAAF World Half Marathon Championships and finished eighth in 1:09:44.

Daniel lives and trains in Iten with a group of elite runners that includes Sharon Cherop (2012 Boston Marathon champion), Mary Keitany, Gladys Cherono and Agnes Kprop. She says a pivotal moment in her career was winning the Vienna City Marathon, because it made her realize that she had the talent to be a top runner. Running for her is a full-time profession, but when she has free time she likes to farm and be outdoors. Daniel says she is a shy person and prefers her race results to do the speaking for her. She likes to cook chapatti and tell stories to the children living in her village. She spent some time in Japan when she first began competing, and speaks some Japanese.

“I have always been fascinated by Boston Marathon as it’s the oldest marathon in the world, and I will do my best to end up on the podium.”
