Frankline Chepkwony returns to Boston after finishing third last year. He says, “The race in 2014 was like no other, because Meb [Keflezighi] decided early to leave the group behind. I had to race from the back, and I regret that we didn’t decide earlier as a group to make a move.” Following Boston, Chepkwony traveled to Berlin where he finished sixth in 2:07:35. He has two career wins to date: the 2013 Seoul Marathon and the 2012 Zurich Marathon. His personal best half marathon is a 1:00:11, recorded with a win at the 2013 Boulogne-Billancourt Half Marathon.
Chepkwony is a training partner of 2013 Chicago Marathon champion and world-record-holder Dennis Kimetto and 2011 Boston Marathon champion Geoffrey Mutai. The trio is part of a group of 60 athletes who train 90 kilometers from Iten at altitude in the remote village of Kapng’etuny. Chepkwony is married to his wife Caroline and the couple has three children: Boniface Sigei, Viola Sigei, and Gedion Sigei.
“Boston is very special to run, because of the course, the people, and the atmosphere. The race itself is one of a kind and I am happy to be there this year and make my own history there.”
