The highlight of Lamei Sun’s athletic career has been her runner-up finish at the Beijing International Marathon. She is proud of that race because it was her first marathon after giving birth to twins. “The toughness and difficulty during the comeback was something that I could only experience,” says Sun.
“Hard work pays off.”

Sun is married to Zhicheng Liu and the couple lives in Beijing. She is a graduate student pursuing a master’s degree in administration. Her hobbies include fishing and skiing. She says that after having her twins she was intent on getting back into training. “There is a Chinese proverb that says women can do things as good as men, and I think women should have their own careers. With this belief, I started my road-running comeback.” Every year, Sun collects used clothing and her friends send those clothes to remote rural areas, to express their concern for people who are less fortunate. Sun intends to volunteer as a teacher in these remote areas.

“ When facing 42.195 km, each step of persistence is a victory.”
