Sean Quigley placed ninth at the 2016 U.S. Olympic Marathon Trials, which was an improvement from his 16th place in 2012. Quigley set his marathon personal best of 2:13:30 at the challenging Fukuoka Marathon in 2014. He was a member of the U.S. 2010 IAAF World Half Marathon Championships team, finishing first American in 19th (1:03:23). In 2010, he won the U.S. 20K Championships and in 2014, the U.S. 7 Mile Championships. Most recently he raced the Houston Half Marathon, finishing 23rd in 1:05:07. He says a pivotal moment for him was winning the 2008 Stanford Invite 10,000m in 28:03 while he was in college. “It was the first race where I put up an elite mark that showed I could run at a high level,” says Quigley.

Quigley grew up a few miles south of Boston in Braintree, Massachusetts, and was an All-American in track and cross country at La Salle University. He graduated with a BA in history. He is coached by Australian Olympic marathoner Lee Troop and currently lives in Lafayette, Colorado with his wife and young daughter. He is a volunteer cross country coach at the local elementary school. “I grew up watching Boston and would take in the atmosphere of the day when my family would go to watch,” says Quigley. “If we weren’t there in person I was watching on television. It’s always been at the top of my bucket list of races. I’m going to take in the energy on the course and it’s going to be an emotional day for me returning back to my home state to compete in the race I always dreamt about.” Quigley is an avid sports fans naming the New England Patriots and the Boston Bruins as two of his favorite teams.

“Boston is the event I’ve looked most forward to for my marathon career. I grew up just outside Boston, so I understand the significance this race and Patriots’ Day have for the city and state. Knowing I’ll have friends and family throughout the course will be a memorable experience for me.”
