Sisay Lemma has won four marathons and is seeking his first World Marathon Majors win in Boston this year. He ran three marathons in 2013, 2015 and 2016 and finished top five in all of those appearances except one. In 2015 Lemma won Vienna by four minutes, which was the largest margin in race history and at the Frankfurt Marathon he was the first Ethiopian to win race. He says when he noticed he had talent in running, he knew working harder would make a difference and his times began to improve. Most recently he finished third this year in Dubai. Lemma says he is running Boston to qualify for his first national championship team.
Lemma trains around Addis Ababa in Suluta, Sendafa, Tatek, Sebeta and Akaki. He ran the 2017 Dubai Marathon as preparation for Boston and is excited about running his first marathon in the United States. A full time runner, Lemma says when he is not training he enjoys spending time with his family, watching soccer and going to church. He also supports youth athletics by supplying money, shoes and clothing.
“I want to #BeBoston and win.”
