Yared Asmerom is one of Eritrea’s most accomplished runners. He has represented his country in two Olympic Games and five World Championships in the marathon. His highest finish at a major championship was fourth place at the 2007 Osaka IAAF World Championships Marathon, where he missed the podium by 16 seconds. He holds the national record of 2:07:27 from a runner-up finish at the 2011 Chunchon Marathon. Asmerom says his two Olympic experiences, where he was the first Eritrean to cross the finish, were career highlights for him. At the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games Marathon, he finished eighth and was followed by Dathan Ritzenhein in ninth and Ryan Hall in tenth. At the 2012 London Olympic Games Marathon, he placed 19th.

Asmerom’s full name is Yared Asmerom Tesfit. He trains in Asmara, Eritrea, under the direction of his coach, Jeronimo Bravo. Asmerom says, “I chose to run Boston because it is one of the greatest major marathons and the best choice for a professional athlete. My expectation is to get my dream and win.”

“#BeBoston. #BeUnited.”
